Help..?

i am a 16 year old cheerleader that hurt my knee from a fall during practice. The doctor said i need surgery in a couple of weeks for now im on crutches. I am really scared about the surgery. I also hate hospitals.
Whats going to happen when i get there?
Whats going to happen before i go into surgery?
How long will i but from cheerleading?
What about anestheia?
What is going to happen after surgery?
Answer:
It should be a routine procedure and the doctors and nurses should be specifically trained at helping you feel at ease. They might give you a sedative to calm your nerves. Whether you get a local anesthesia or a general anesthesia, my understanding is that you won't care during the operation.
After surgery, you may need some pain-killers, like some strong Tylenol. When you are ready, they will put you through some physical therapy to get your muscles working again.
Since you are young, your body will be able to recover quite quickly from this.
Ok... I had surgery on my foot, I'm even younger than you. Its really not bad at all, they just give you the anesthesia and you go to sleep, wake up later and your fine. When you get there, they give you an ugly gown (i know ewwww) and a cap thing, it makes it seem all depressing and stuff but its all good. Then they'll put you in a bed and the anesthesiologist will come, and they will put in a needle in your arm. You can ask that they numb it before, thats what i did and it didnt hurt at all. If not, just dont watch the needle going in and focus on something else. As for the healing time, Im not sure just ask your doctor. After surgery, you will wake up but probably be very tired, so you will sleep for a little while. Then youll go home and watch TV for the rest of the day, call your friends, etc etc. Oh and there will be lots of bandages and stuff and DONT GET IT WET OR YOU WILL GET AN INFECTION!! oh no! hah dont worry youll be fine.
I couldn't have explained it better than dfasdfadsfadsfsadf did.As for how long you're going to be out of cheerleading depends on how serious the problem is, how long you take to heal, and how well you listen to the doctors advice.
If he says to stay off of it for a certain length of time - stay off of it.
If he tells you to start mild exercises after awhile - do them exactly as he tells you.Not listening to the doctor or therapist can actually prolong your healing. and you certainly don't want that - especially if you want to get back to cheerleading as soon as possible. You'll be fine, hun... and good luck.
I was in the hospital for a long time. They are there to help you - remember that. They won't hurt you, they will do what is possible for you to heal - but they can't do it for you.
You need to learn to relax and trust. Until you learn to go with the program and take it easy, you are just wasting mental energy criticizing and analyzing everything.
They will do what they need to do. They aren't going to baby you. They will treat you clinically, like a patient - that's their job. It's up to your family and frinds to dote on you.
Don't push it on cheerleading. You'll going to be out - for a long time likely. Just take it easy and let your body heal.
Anaestesia is a trip. Just go with it and try to relax.
After surgery you will have rehab, maybe physical therapy. That will help you a lot if you let it. Cooperate. Sometimes having surgery is made worse by the patients getting all drama. Don't do that - even if you are a cheerleader. Try your best to just relax and let yourself heal. Sleep a lot - don't push it.
Let me try to answer your questions in the order you posted them.Whats going to happen when i get there? You will be admitted. A nurse will interview you and obtain a medical history. You will be informed of the plan of care that your doctor has layed out for you.Whats going to happen before i go into surgery? Before surgery you will have to sign a consent to the procedure or surgery that will be done. In your case, it will be your parents or legal guardian who will most likely sign the consent. Right before surgery your anesthesiologist will assess you and inform you of the form of anesthesia or sedation that you will be receiving and you or your legal guardian will sign another consent for this. The anesthesia you will receive will largely depend on the kind of surgery/procedure you will be getting. And you will be likely told not to eat or drink anything 24 hours before your surgery. How long will i but from cheerleading?Depends on your surgery and the kind of injury you sustained. What about anestheia? As above. What is going to happen after surgery? You will be wheeled in to the Recovery Room, otherwise known as Post Anesthesia Care Unit, and will stay there for approximately one hour until you are fully awake. Whether or not you will be staying in the hospital for a day or two depends on the surgery that is done, if it is something minor then you will likely go home after your stay in the Recovery Room.Good luck. Hope this helps.
Good Question! I Need To Know Too...
First of all, surgery depends on the specific injury. It can be a simple arthroscopy or a complicated reconstruction. Trust your surgeon - that's why he or she went to Med School, then 5 years of a Residency, then a Fellowship, plus years of experience. The key to return to cheerleading is on you! Your attitude towards rehab determines that. Listen to your Doctor and Physical Therapist. Protect it when they tell you, push it when they tell you. Somethings will be uncomfortable, but necessary. You must get your full motion back. Return of normal motion is the key for a successful rehab path. Listen to the PT guiding you.
