Help!! I just got a letter from my daughters school, about a spinal screening referral...?

They say looks like she has thoracic irregularity. Someone knows about this? what causes it, and what are the side effects etc... Concern parent......
Answer:
I am a school nurse..this just mean that when they did a scoliosis screening they saw something that concerned them and want you to have it checked out by a doctor. It does not mean she has scoliosis..it could just mean she is a bit uneven or something..this is just a screening..and they want to be safe and have it checked. When they say "thoracic" that's just talking about the location where they see a concern..in the chest area. Have her checked by your family doctor and if they are still concerned they will do x rays etc..good luck!
A thoracic irregularity is when one or more vertibrae in the upper spinal column (the vertibrae attatched to your ribs) is deformed, or the discs between them are misshapen or crooked. It's fairly common, and if your daughter is not having any discomfort or difficulty moving or breathing, it shouldn't be major. Treatment depends on the severity of the curvature and your daughter's age. They range from doing nothing to a back brace, to surgery in severe cases.
