Help! I think I just overdosed on vitamin C!?

I wasn't looking hard enough at the supplement bottles and accidentally took 5,000 mg of vitamin C! I tried to make myself throw up, hoping to get it out of my stomach, but that only worked a little. What should I do? Everyone's asleep and it's 10 at night!
Answer:
There are some vitamins/minerals that in over dosed amounts can actually have bad side effects but Vitamin C isn't one of them.
When the body has all the Vitamin C it needs,it excretes the remainder through your urine and you will definately notice a change in the color of our urine.
Drink lots of water and you will be OK.Sorry you had to do the throw up thing for nothing.
wake somebody up
call poison control they can help just make sure they dont even ask you for your name they just give advice the number is 1-800-222-1222
Calm down, your body will get rid of it, as long as you don't do it often, your body will pee the excess out and it won't harm you.
Take some vitamin D to balance it out.
I dont know what to much Vita C can do but it cant be good If to much Iron can kill you. Call someone.wake someone up!!
it's only vitamin C calm down, it's not steroids or anything odd. 10 at night isnt so late.
You can take up to 10,000 a day and it will just give you diarrhea. Your body will just get rid of what you don't use. Drink a lot of water so you will pee it out if you want to.
call poison control center. my 2 year old neice got into her grandmothers multi vitimins the other week and she took 6 adult doses! the poison control center said it would not hurt her at all. just the vitimin k and iron couldf hurt her. they said it could take 50 of them to od a child and 100 of them to od a grown up. i woulnt be too concerned but i would call the poison control just to make sure. good luck
You can't really overdose on vitamin C. Any excess that your body can't use will be excreted. it will also help to boost your immune system and you probably won't get a cold for a while
you'll be alright. vitamin C is water soluable. what this means to you is that you'll urinate the excess out
Overdose is very unlikely with ascorbic acid. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. US residents can call the US National Poison Hotline at 1-800-222-1222. Canada residents can call a provincial poison control center.NOTES:
If your doctor has prescribed this vitamin, do not share it with others. This product is not a substitute for a proper diet. Remember that it is best to get your vitamins from healthy foods. Ascorbic acid is commonly found in citrus fruit, tomatoes, potatoes, spinach, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and broccoli, among others. Consult your doctor, pharmacist, or nutritionist for more details.MISSED DOSE:
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.STORAGE:
Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.Information last revised January 2007 Copyright(c) 2007 First DataBank, Inc.
Dont worry about excessive amounts of vit. C. Its actually good to have more then a normal amount when you are sick. Look at some of the vitamin waters out there, they are 250% of your daily supply of vit. C. Just settle down and let your body get rid of the excess. Now, if the bottle says NOT to take more than X pills then I would seek medical attention!
No worries. I havent heard of anything bad happening to ppl who overdosed on vit c. i have heard of bad effect of to much calcium tho. Well, over an extended period of time it can cause colon cancer. But in Ur case, Ur fine! :D
An overdose of ascorbic acid is not likely to be dangerous. If you suspect and overdose, call a doctor or a poison control center for advice.
It won't hurt you. It will pass through your urine.
You may be uncomfortable for a while, but there should be no long-term toxicity. Tell your doctor about it. He or she might recommend copper supplements."Vitamin C is water soluble and is regularly excreted by the body. While vitamin C is generally non-toxic, however, in high doses (more than 2,000 mg daily) it can cause diarrhea, gas, or stomach upset. At high doses, some people can experience gastrointestinal side effects such as stomach cramps, nausea, and diarrhea and may increase the risk of developing kidney stones. Intake of large amounts of vitamin C can deplete the body of copper, an essential nutrient. Vitamin C increases the absorption of iron and should be avoided by people with iron overload diseases. Those who have kidney problems should check with a healthcare provider before taking vitamin C supplements. Infants born to mothers taking 6,000 mg or more of vitamin C may develop rebound scurvy due to a sudden drop in daily intake. People with hemochromatosis should not take vitamin C supplements because of enhanced accumulation of non-heme iron in the presence of this vitamin."

Sorry you are having troubles. I am glad I happened to see your post, because I know a lot about vitamin C.You have NOTHING to worry about - absolutely nothing.Taking that much C is completely harmless. Don't try to make yourself throw up. Don't call poison control. Drink a bit of water, but don't worry. Taking too much C upsets the stomach very badly, it does definetly. But it is harmless, it upsets the stomach in the same way that say, a burrito would, in the sense that it is unpleasant but harmless. Actually, it is healthier than a burrito. I have taken too much C before, it will upset your stomach for say a day. Next day, you should be feeling great. You will get through it and then suddenly, you will feel perfectly normal - it doesn't leave much residual stomach upset - once its gone, its gone. If you have any other questions about vitamin C, just ask me or something.
well considering its now 5am and you posted this at 10pm and if you read this your fine if not - well don't know what to tell ya
Your body will get rid of it. Vitamen C is water soluble.
5 000mg of vitamin C is not at all a large dose.
2000mg is a regular daily dosage and if you have a cold it is recommended that you take at least 8 000mg a day. Vitamin c is water soluble- that means if your body doesnt use it you wil just pee it out and maybe get a bit of diarrhea. so there is absolutely no harm.
